Questions 1 and 2

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
In Media we have been told we have to do a short 2 minute opening sequence to a film. My groups choice was to do a thriller film opening sequence. Before we actually started filming and planning our ideas for our opening sequence we had to look at other opening sequences and look for similar conventions. An opening sequence is useually there to give the audince a small taste on what the film ahead is going to be like and put a picture in there heads. When looking my group saw a lot of similar convventions of a opening sequence. For example slow paced editing to show the audince where we are, setting to show the audince where it will be mainly set, Titles to show the audience who is in the film. One thing I felt was mainly important is the fact that an opening sequence is there to introduce the characters. They opening sequence shows us a main character maybe a small part of the problem he will face, where he lives, what he does and basically get to see there lives before the problems occuer.
After looking at all the different films we had to make a discision on what conventions we would use in our thriller opening sequence. As we chose the thriller opening we decided on low key lighting. One reason we dicided on this is because because once we looked at th low key lgihting we realised it left the audince feeling quite weary which is the affct we wanted our audience to feel and we thought by starting with a dark atmosphire it would hopefully go on through out the res of the film. Another thing that was important in our filming was to decide what sound effects to put in.while editing. one thing we used was a big drop in the music when the killer looks up to make the audince seem afraid of they killer.Another important factor was the fact that we had to think about what types of shots we used. this mainly had close ups in it as it was a good way on introducing the characters and it showed clarly the items that related to are charcters.

I personally thought our opening sequence was very good in the way that we inculded a lot of different components and elements in our opening sequence which deffinatly sucked the audience in and kept them interested. however we didnt really have a plot opening in our opening sequence as we only really saw the face of one character.

How does you Media product represent particular social groups?

Are opening sequence didnt really have many social groups involved in it we only had a couple. One of them happened to be a religous social group. the reason this is one is because one of the main characters in our film is a religous killer who believes everyone should follow Gods rules. However he almost goes against his own social groups as he is a murderer and by doing this he is going agaisnt his and gods own rules because god says 'thou shall not kill'. The murderer is a dark character for one obvious reason that he is a murderer; also the fact that he has his hood up and almost faced covered in the whole opening.

Our other social group is the young adult group which like to go clubbing, enjoy life and not think of the consiquences he rough age of about 18 to 25 at a push. the character in our crime drama represents this sterotype almost exactly and goes against a lot of religous rules which is why she gets killed by our religous character. our character is mainly represented throught the close ups of the items like neurofen and the fact that there are a pair of shoes and a dress.

Lastly another social groups could be detectives that are called in with the police help solve things like murders. .The charcters in our crime drama represents this sterotype because in our crime drama we will have loads of detectives cominmg in to solve the crime about who murdered the girl.
